Ivan's posted some information on something we may see in Patch 2, called the Omnipedia. Part achievement, part lore/universe reference guide, it will apparently unlock information and perhaps even some kind of upgrades to your character.
His examples are below:
Basically, kill a monster type, content gets added. Keep killing a monster type, more content gets added. Same thing with NPCs – do their quests and you get content adds. And carry that over to levels and weapons, too. Hit up an area and get text. The more you adventure there, the more you unlock. Use a weapon, get fiction. Etcetera.
Hopefully we can do something a bit more with it, too. Like, the more you learn, the more effective you are. Maybe if I learn all there is to know about an area, I might get better drops there. Or, if I learn all there is to know about a Demon type, I might be more effective against it. Stuff like that.
